Picture Perfect Richard I’Anson

23 Jan ’12 |

Richard I’Anson is one of Australia’s most traveled photographers. He is also one of our most publishers photographers with 11 books to his credit published by Lonely Planet.

Richard has traveled the world for the past 28 years  with a massive library of images of people and places from more than 85 countries and on all seven continents.

His landscapes can be extraordinary panoramas of the worlds most accessible and inaccessible places.

Richard’s secret:

“There’s a right time of day to photograph anything. The trick for me is to be there. At the right time in the right place. All the time. That’s the key”

Richard says he has a very strong idea of what he’s after: “I try not to leave things to chance. But I’m open to chance if it comes along”

His work usually involves a degree of waiting for that right time:” There’s definitely a lot of waiting. But more than waiting- there’s planning. If you get the planning right you don’t have to wait too long!” says Richard.
